a little context beforehand, it’s based on the Be the Sea Dweller Lowblood universe where the hemospectrum is reversed so the trolls that are highbloods in Homestuck are lowbloods in this. Explains one of the character’s reactions. And the fantroll character has pheromone control. I think that’s enuff background

Imagining gently holding him in your arms, watching his eyes slowly wake up as he stops being a machine and becomes a troll again, smiling at the puzzled look on his face as he glances around himself and then at you, leaning close to him and whispering, “You’re safe now,” seeing his expression change from confusion to disbelief to anger to hope to relief to joy, carefully cupping his cheek as he breaks into a wide grin, closing your eyes as he leans in to kiss…

Stupid delusional fantasies. If Nepeta had ever expressed to you a fraction of the fantastic sentiments that run through your mind on a near-perpetual loop, you would have considered yourself a failure of a moirail and immediately ordered her to either bring her thoughts back to the real world or else find a strong medication which could do it for her.

Yes. You’ve made plans.

You wish you knew.

One night, she came on Pesterchum to tell you all about something she’d discovered: some cave, she claimed, with paintings all over the walls.

You thought it was a game of hers, some roleplay nonsense she was trying to suck you into, and you told her to cease her foolishness. You were certain at the time that, if there was a cave, it was one that she had painted herself. It may even have been the one she called hive.

You were wrong.

Her excitement over the cave grew, as she described more tunnels and caverns she’d discovered, and entrances to other nearby caves. She said most of them were pictures, silent comics, stories. She said there were words, mostly faded. She said it contained a love story, about a crafty rogue and a visionary knight. She said it was about a war fought without weapons—a war for peace. She said it was a tragedy, a warning, and a prophecy.

You put up with her story but made it quite clear that you believed none of her fancies, and furthermore demanded to know why she persisted in this game.

And gradually she stopped talking about it.

Nearly a sweep after she first mentioned it, she trolled you again, so filled with excitement that the first few messages she sent you weren’t even legible. She claimed she’d made a discovery. She claimed that, somehow, the messages on the walls came from the future. She said she knew this because the knight was Karkat.

And because she herself had written the story.

You wasted no time in telling her how foolish this was and why she should just quit with these ridiculous fancies while she was ahead. You now regret every single word you typed. When you finished ranting at her, chastising her, she didn’t answer. She was still signed on, but she didn’t answer. And hours later she was still signed on but not answering. As far as you know, she simply left in the middle of your outburst.

You never had another conversation with her.

Whenever you tried to troll her (and you did try, many times; you tried and tried and continue to try), she would never answer. Even if she were online.

Sometimes when you went offline, she would send you messages. The first came a week after your outburst: she said that she’d met some friends at the caves. Imaginary, you assumed.

The second came a couple of weeks later, saying that this time, this time, she’d figured it out: the knight was Karkat’s ancestor. The rogue writer was her own ancestor. More plausible, but more fiction, you assumed. (You assumed so much.) Lowbloods simply don’t understand ancestry, it isn’t relevant to their lives because they don’t live long enough to leave a proper legacy; she had probably grabbed a term she’d heard from you or from any of the other highbloods in your social circle, grabbed a term to make a nice story without understanding the implications.

After that, you didn’t hear from her for two, three perigees. Sometimes you would sit up, late into the day, sitting at your computer with Pesterchum set to invisible so you would look offline, hoping she would contact you.

And then she did, suddenly, all in a flurry, a burst of messages in the middle of the day. Pages upon pages that you didn’t see until it was too late.

She said that she had left home.

She said that she was leaving Alternia all together, shortly after she finished this message.

She said she had friends.

She said she had a religion.

She said that her friends wouldn’t let her contact you but that you had snuck off to do it anyway, “because we were meowrails… :((” That was the first time you saw your moirallegiance referred to in past tense.

She said that she did not and now never would support the hemospectrum, and if she couldn’t persuade you to oppose it then she couldn’t be with you.

She said that she assumed she couldn’t persuade you.

She said that she and her friends were going to bring down the hemospectrum by any means necessary.

She said that there would be holy war.

She said that it would be soon.

She said that they knew it would be soon because their messiah had been hatched.

She said she hoped that she would not have to fight you.

She said that she knew who your ancestor is.

She said that your ancestor was brave, was noble, and she hoped someday you would be too.

She said she hoped that you would be happy.

She said you could have everything she’d left in her hive, and sent the coordinates.

She said good luck.

She said good bye.

And you lost her. You lost her. The object of your pity and the only troll to pity you. The blade to backup your bow. The sun to illuminate your moon. The emerald to match your sapphire.

You lost her.

To a cult.

To a cult.

To a fucking CULT.

Nights passed before you had the will to drag yourself to the coordinates she had given you. Only to find out they didn’t lead you to her hive. They led to one of the caves. Filled with ancient, ancient, so ancient drawings, art, paint, dried and fading and looking nothing like anything Nepeta had ever drawn, the handwriting looking nothing like modern trolls used. You hired a crew of archaeologists to excavate the site, to find out what it was, what it meant. They estimated that the drawings were around six centuries old, and that was as far as they got.

You were only a couple of nights into the investigation when royals swooped in. They culled everybody lower than teal and informed the rest of you that if you ever spoke of the place then you and all your quadrants, neighbors, allies, and slaves would die for it. And then they destroyed the site.

When you dared ask why, you were informed it was not for you to know. When you asked if it had to do with a cult, they pulled you aside for questioning. After several days of mild torture, during which you cracked like a rotten egg and told them everything you knew about the other caves (but managed to convince them that you had heard this via an anonymous imageboard posting), they finally answered your question: yes. Yes, it did have to do with a cult. A very old, very dangerous cult of personality constructed around a mad, dead anarchist.

You haven’t heard from Nepeta since.

You wish you’d listened.

Thanks to her final message, you have the name of your ancestor.

But you are far too afraid to contact him.

Most of us here are active in fandom. We write, we draw, we gif, we screencap, we mod, we liveblog, we create. We share the joy every way we know how. We also rain praise on the works of others - and it’s well-deserved, because there is so. Much. Awesome out there.

But we neglect our own awesome. Maybe it’s modesty, maybe it’s low self-esteem, maybe it’s just how we were raised, but so many of us are reluctant to put ourselves forward and admit that we are ridiculously awesome, as a certain attractive Antivan elf is wont to say. And we’re all proud of something, more so than any other. A fic, a drawing, a piece of dialogue, a liveblog post, a gif we made, a character we’ve shared with others … doesn’t matter what; there’s something we love.

So here’s my challenge to you all - show us what you’re proudest of. Stand up with that one thing you love the best. Fic, ficlet, dialogue snippet, essay, character, fanart, anything you’ve made that you love, show it. And tell us why. You love it; I want to love it too.

I’ll even start. I’m proudest of a ficlet I wrote as a prompt for @skiesovergideon - the last thoughts of a female mage Warden (Surana, in my case, but I never specified) before slaying the archdemon, without the Dark Ritual being performed. I liked the simplicity of it, the first-person narrative, the sense of wistful joy and somehow unregretful regret in it. I’ve written a lot of things I love, but that one, I think, touches me most.

I don’t know if I’ll ever finish. But I am still super proud of how /hard/ I worked on this. No pose refs, just my brain. NOW, my Ariqun has changed quite a bit, no longer in white, but black, and I think I changed the Arigena, but I will forever be obsessed with seeing the rest if the triumvirate. Always.

This just embodies me and what I love. I did have a ref, but at least the semi-nice shading is all me.

I have no excuse. D: I just like his ass. DX

This style was fun to emulate! And I’m really proud of how I made it look old timey and kind of modern at the same time. And the smooth lines! I so rarely have smooth lines. Again, no vectoring, all freehanded. I don’t know if lightening could strike twice though xD;;;

I get it, okay? There’s the potential for HUGE unfortunate implications re: making them a couple the moment it can be deemed ‘straight’, and if they do that, I will be pissed off. Likewise, issues like, ‘women and men can’t be friends!’ But know what? That doesn’t change the fact that making one of the most iconic characters ever a woman of colour is really amazing, that giving the secondary lead to a woman of colour is really fucking amazing, and that yes, that means that Elementary is a leg up over Sherlock in that respect!

INTERSECTIONALITY, FUCKERS. LEARN IT. Prioritising cis white dude slash over women of colour being in reasonably high-profile roles is not actually okay.

And you know what? I bet 90% of you do not care jack shit about queer issues beyond shipping. I’m leaving that 10% open as a very generous figure, by the by. Because yeah, I want a canonically queer Holmes/Watson too.

But if you cared about that, I bet you wouldn’t be whining that Watson was a girl. You’d be wondering why Holmes wasn’t too.
